Stewart Wheeler

Stewart Wheeler began his assignment as Deputy High Commissioner for Canada in India (with concurrent accreditation to Nepal and Bhutan) in September 2023, following more than four years 0f service as Chief of Protocol of Canada. He is also currently serving as the LGBTQI+ Champion for Global Affairs Canada. He has been an officer in Canada’s Foreign Service for over 29 years, with postings in Washington, London, Bogota and Kabul, and from 2012 to 2016 served as Ambassador of Canada in Iceland. He has received the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award for Foreign Policy Excellence and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, and earned the Operational Service Medal – South-West Asia Ribbon for his civilian service in Afghanistan in 2010-2011.
